LIVE UPDATES: Surprise Return Highlights Arkansas vs McNeese State Doubleheader

Peyton Stovall’s return to the Razorbacks’ lineup is happening sooner than expected, as he’ll play in Saturday’s Arkansas vs McNeese State doubleheader.

Earlier in the week, Dave Van Horn sounded optimistic that his star second baseman would be able to play in the SEC-opening series against Missouri next weekend and was hopeful he might be ready to go in next Tuesday’s midweek game against Oral Roberts.

Instead, he’s slated to start at designated hitter when the Razorbacks host the Cowboys beginning at noon CT. (Game 2 of the doubleheader will start 45 minutes after the end of Game 1 and both will be streamed on SEC Network-Plus.)

Stovall has missed the first three weeks of the season because of a broken foot suffered in a preseason intrasquad scrimmage on Feb. 5, less than two weeks before Arkansas’ opener against James Madison.

His return couldn’t come at a better time for the Razorbacks, who have gotten off to a slow start offensively. They’re hitting just .285 as a team and rank 13th out of 14 teams in the SEC in both on-base percentage (.409) and slugging percentage (.438).

Best of Arkansas Sports will provide inning-by-inning updates and stats from both Arkansas baseball games below…
